What is the #preservationpledge?

We have started using the hashtag #preservationpledge to represent our approach to Kunekune preservation. Based on our core priorites, the #preservationpledge signifies that we are committed to preserving the Kunekune as a heritage breed landrace, pork-producing animal. That means we prioritize breeding for future generations that will maintain essential attributes for survival and self-sufficiency – fertility, foraging ability, longevity, ability to adapt to the natural environment, strong maternal instincts, ability to mate naturally, and resistance to diseases and parasites. It also means that we recognize and appreciate the diversity of shapes, colors and sizes and value both a wattled and unwattled pigs for what they can contribute to future generations.
